What is my FTP address?

You have 3 options for FTP address.

1. ftp.yourdomain.yourtoplevel (com, net, info, etc…) So, if your domain ends in .com, it would be “ftp.yourdomain.com”.

2. ftp.888-hosting.com

3. ftps.888-hosting.com – This is used when you want to have a secure socket layer connection for your FTP but do be aware that this will only work with your cPanel username and password.

What port do I use for my FTP connection?

Depending on what kind of connection you are making, FTP or FTPS, will make a difference:

FTP – port 21
FTPS – port 22

How to I get to my cPanel?

There are three ways you can navigate to your cPanel log in page:

1. http://yourdomain.com (net, info or other)/cpanel. So, if your domain ends with .com the address would be http://yourdomain.com/cpanel. (replace “yourdomain” with your domain name).

2. http://888-hosting.com/cpanel

3. navigate to http://888-hosting.com and click on the “cPanel Log In” under “Customer Services”.

Do I have to use an email client for email?

No, you don’t. We do have a web based interface for your email (webmail).
You get to the webmail by one of the following three ways:

1. http://yourdomain.com (.net, .info., etc…)/webmail. So, if your domain ends in .com then the link would be http://yourdomain.com/webmail. (Replace “yourdomain” with your actual domain name).

2. http://888-hosting.com/webmail

3. Navigate to http://888-hosting.com and click on the “Web Mail” link in the “Customer Services” column.

Once you arrive the first page will be a log in page. You will need to enter your full email address and your email address password.

After login you will be presented with a page showing 3 choices of webmail clients. There is no 1 that is better, everyone has different tastes. We suggest that you try them all to decide which one you like best.
Be sure not to click on the link, (Enable Auto Load) until you are sure of which program you like the best. Using this link on any of those will then cause that program to auto load when you log in instead of presenting the 3 choices. Rather, you should click on the Icon of the program you want to try.

PS:
You will note, on the 3 option page, at the bottom, there is a link for, “Change Password”. You can use this link at any time to change your password for your email account. But remember, once you change it here, if you have an email client set up on your PC, tablet, phone or other, you will need to change the password there also or your device will try, unsuccessfully, to log into your email many times and eventually block your IP on the server.

Why can’t I get my email? It was working before but suddenly stopped.

There are actually multiple reasons why your email client might not be connecting to the server. Lets go over them 1 by 1 and try to resolve your issue.

We will assume that because you are reading this, your internet connection is working. However, if you are viewing this from a different device, please make sure that you are connected to the internet from the device you want to retrieve your email from. You can do this my navigating to a site you have never been to before. You must do this as a site you normally navigate to may be held in your browser cache and be displayed to you even if you are actually off line.

“I have confirmed that I am connected to the internet”

OK, next we need to try and log onto your webmail and make sure that you know your password. Some email clients do have a tendency to drop passwords, or, more commonly, you experience a short outage of internet connectivity so your email client tells you it cannot log in and prompts your for your password. Not realizing that your stored password is actually correct but that you are just not connecting to the server, you may enter your password in again, improperly, so when you do reconnect to the internet, your mail client now has the wrong password. This can compound and create an additional problem in the fact that once you are reconnected, many email clients, especially Outlook, will rapidly attempt to reconnect to the server multiple times. Now that your password is incorrect, the server, after 20 attempts, will block your IP for a period of time.

Use this link to log into the webmail client. Enter your full email address and your password. If you are able to log in then the server and email is working then the issue is with your password or other settings on your email client.

If you believe that it is a password issue, you can contact your web administrator and ask them to reset your password through cPanel. Or, alternately, you may contact us directly to ask for us to change your password. Please do be aware, however, that if you are not the site admin, we will need to first contact the site admin to verify that you are who you say you are and is OK to change your password, so, it may be best, if you can, to first contact your site admin.

“I have contact my site, or, I have contact you directly to change my password but I still cannot get in”.

Your IP may now be blocked. If you are connected to the internet from work and your admin is in the same location, then you will know that your IP has been blocked because your admin will also not be able to log into cPanel and more than likely all others in your office will also not be able to get their email. In this case, please have your site admin contact us and be ready to provide your companies IP address?

“How do I know what our IP address is”?

Use this link and it will show you what your routers IP is. We need your routers IP, not the private IP address of your individual PC or other device.

“I have tried all the above and I have contacted 888-Hosting to unblock my IP but I still can’t get my email”.

Please check all your settings on your email client:

Connecting with SSL
Username: Your full email address
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server: host1.888-hosting.com (.net, .info, etc..)
IMAP Port: 993
POP3 Port: 995
Outgoing Server: host1.888-hosting.com
SMTP Port: 465
Authentication is required for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.

Connection Non-SSL
Username: Your full email address
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server: mail.yourdomain.com (.net, .info, etc..)
IMAP Port: 143
POP3 Port: 110
Outgoing Server: mail.yourdomain.com (.net, .info, etc..)
SMTP Port: 26
Authentication is required for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.

Notes:

IMAP email access coordinates between the server and your mail application. Messages that you have read, deleted, or replied to will show up as such, both on the server and in the mail application.
POP3 does not coordinate with the server. Messages that the mail application marks as read, deleted, or replied to will not show up as such on the server. This means that future mail downloads with POP3 will show all messages as unread.
The system uses SMTP to send outgoing mail.
We recommend that you use POP3 over SSL/TLS or IMAP over SSL/TLS because they provide increased security for your interactions with the remote mail server.

Why do I have two account log ins?

There are two parts of 888-hosting that do completely different things so they are separated as such. As the majority of our clients are businesses, the accounting department rarely is involved in IT and the IT department is rarely involved with billing. Therefore, there are two areas, one is billing and the other is cPanel.

Billing is where you can add/remove services and pay any current invoices.

cPanel is where you actually carry out functions with concern to your web site and hosting such as creating/editing email accounts and FTP accounts, reading and writing files directly to your site space, setting up filters or add on server side programs such as Blogs, eCommerce, Bulletin Boards and more. It also has a simple FTP built in client for downloading or uploading files (no folders).

What is FTP and why do I need it?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.  It is the form of communication between computers (your PC and your hosting server) that allows you to upload and download files to or from your storage space.

Your storage space is normally where your website resides and the need for uploading files is to push up your website, files for changes or additions to your web site, things you want to store off site or things you wish to share with others.

To make an FTP connection to your storage space, you will need to use your cPanel credentials or create a new FTP account from your cPanel.

All Email stopped, I didn’t change anything but I can no longer get or send my email.

There are a couple of reasons why this may happen.  The two most common are:

1.  Something has gone wrong with your email client (software) on your computer.  How to identify if this is the case?  Try logging into webmail, if that works, then you have an issue with your settings or there is a problem with your email client.

2.  Someone or something has made too many bad attempts to log onto the server, via email, FTP or cPanel, and the IP at your current location is now blocked on the server.  How to identify if this is the case?  Try logging into webmail.  If it fails then you are more than likely locked out of the server.

What to do if the problem is my mail client?
Check all your settings and make sure they are correct.  How to check your email settings.
If you have checked all the settings and it is still not working, you may, in rare occasions, need to remove your email account from your email client and re-install.  If you have been using IMAP or POP3 with the settings of, keep copy on server, then all of your email will return to your email client after you set the email account back up again.

What to do if the problem is, “I am blocked”?
click on this link:  Check my IP
T
his will open a web page that will show you what your actual IP is (The IP of your router, how you are seen from the outside world, not the private IP of your computer in your local network).  If you are blocked it will be this IP that we need to clear up.
Next, put in a support ticket with the subject of, “My IP is blocked”.  Give us your account information and the IP address that was shown on the, “Check my IP” page.  We will determine the cause of the block and unblock that IP so that you can get in again.

Please remember, there was something that caused the block in the first place and until that is resolved, your IP will probably get blocked again.  You need to find out what caused the block in the first place.  A block is not just an arbitrary thing done by the server, it is only done if there are multiple bad log in attempts from that IP.  You may need to check your passwords, usernames and more than likely run a virus scan on your computer.
